Spice Telecom initiates empowerment of the girl child on International Women's Day

1.Spice to contribute towards the socio-economic development of young girls at Bal Niketan

2.Send SMS to 555 and donate Rs.10 to Project 'Disha' for girl child development


Chandigarh, March 9, 2006:
To commemorate International Women's Day, Spice Telecom, today, launched a social initiative called 'Project Disha', in partnership with Bal Niketan, a city based NGO that works towards the betterment of underprivileged children of our society. In an endeavour to empower the girl child, Spice through Project Disha, will contribute towards the socio-economic empowerment of the young girls residing at Bal Niketan. To add further to this corporate social initiative, subscribers can also send an SMS to 555 and donate Rs.10 for the education of the girl child.

Project Disha
Project Disha, is a long term commitment undertaken by Spice, through which the company will cater to the social and economic needs of young girls by partnering with Bal Niketan, and work towards a well rounded development of the girl child.

Type 'Donate' and SMS to 555
As part of its corporate social responsibility towards empowerment of the girl child, Spice Telecom has launched an SMS initiative. Through this initiative, pre-paid and post-paid subscribers of Spice Telecom can easily participate and contribute towards the growth of the girl child.

1.Subscribers need to type 'DONATE' and send it as a SMS to 555
2.Each SMS sent will be charged at a nominal rate of Rs.10.00
3.This amount will be collected donated to Bal Niketan at the end of the month

Speaking at the launch of this social initiative, Mr. Mukul Khanna, Assistant Vice President - Marketing, Spice Telecom, Punjab, stated that "Spiceans have always come forward to support any noble cause, as this is our way of saying we care for the people of Punjab. In an endeavour to celebrate the occasion of International Women's Day, we at Spice hope to be able to contribute to the socio-economic development of young girls residing at Bal Niketan. Through Project Disha, we also hope that these underprivileged girls can be provided with basic education facilities, so that they are able to stand on an equal footing with men. We urge Spice subscribers to actively come forward and donate towards this noble cause."

Dr. Madhu Sharma, Director, Bal Niketan, said that "The social project undertaken by Spice Telecom will ensure that our girls obtain the same access to basic education as boys. This project is a clear indication of how corporate sponsors can use their resources to work for the good of the underprivileged children. About International Women's Day
International Women's Day (8 March) is an occasion marked by women's groups around the world. This date is also commemorated at the United Nations and is designated in many countries as a national holiday.
