Spice Telecom , in association with the Distt. Red Cross Society , Jalandhar, today marked the World AIDS Day by launching an AIDS awareness drive campaign targeting the youth of the city. India right now has the second largest number of HIV/AIDS cases in the world. By 2010, India will have 20-25 million HIV positive people, the highest estimate for any country in the world. The occurrence of AIDS is the highest in the 18-35 years age group, which constitutes the most economically productive workforce of the country. This makes it imperative to impart education and awareness of HIV-AIDS amongst the youth.
The occasion was marked by the flagging off of the ‘Stop AIDS. Keep the promise.' mobile by Mr. Rahul Gupta (PCS), Asst. Commissioner (General), Jalandhar and Mr. Sidharth Mehra, AGM-Marketing, Spice Telecom amidst a select gathering of media and guests. The objective of the campaign is to increase awareness of HIV-AIDS and dispel myths and misconceptions related to the virus, amongst the youth of the city. In this endeavour the Spice mobile will visit colleges across Jalandhar, namely Apeejay College of Fine Arts, Khalsa College and DAV College , distributing “Red Ribbons” symbolising our united effort against the dreaded HIV-virus and distributing educational pamphlets.
Mr. Rahul Gupta (PCS), Asst. Commissioner (General ) , speaking on the occasion, opined, “The alarming rate of increase in HIV positive cases in India , calls for a concerted effort from each individual of the society, especially the youth as they are the future of the society.”
Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Sidharth Mehra, Asst. General Manager, Spice Telecom, Punjab , stated that “As a socially responsible organisation , it is our constant endevour to contribute towards the betterment of society. AIDS has emerged as a serious socio-economic threat to society. We feel happy to partner with the Distt. Red Cross, Jalandhar in spreading the message “Stop AIDS. Keep the promise“ through music.”
Spice Euphoria Live Concert
Spice in collaboration with the Distt. Red Cross Jalandhar & Apeejay College of Fine Arts is organizing an exciting Euphoria Live Concert on December 03, to creatively impart through the medium of music, knowledge against the virus and further promote awareness of HIV-AIDS on a large scale.
Euphoria is one of the most famous and successful Rock & Pop bands in India . Their unique style is a refreshing alternative to the dominant Indian film or classical music , and has helped them create an audience for themselves. Euphoria was among the first to bring rock culture to India . They have mixed electric guitar with traditional instruments like the tabla , dholak and sitar to create mesmerizing musical effects. The band calls its music Hind rock , their first album is titled Dhoom , followed by Phir Dhoom , Mantra (single) and Gulley . Their latest album is called " Mehfuz " and was released in 2006 . The band members include Debajyoti Bhaduri on bass guitar, Benjamin Pinto on keyboard, Hitesh Madan on guitar, Ashwani on drums, Rakesh on dholak , Prashant on tabla and Palash Sen as the lead vocalist.
