Spice Telecom, Punjab's premier cellular company , has been associated with the city youth for a long time now. Keeping in pace with the growing popularity of rock culture in India, especially amongst the youth of Chandigarh, Spice is bringing in members of upcoming rock bands ‘21 st Rebel Street', ‘Wasted Souls' & ‘Seraphim' to perform at the Panjab University Music festival ‘Jhankar'. The idea is to promote young artists to showcase their talent while providing a platform for the growing rock culture that is sweeping most sophisticated cities across India . Prior to this, Spice has actively partnered with organizations to promote young talent in the city and give the very best to art & music lovers.
This is an initiative by Spice Telecom to bring forth young budding artists, who have dared to chase their dreams and have been able to LIVE them. In doing so, Spice has once again lived up to its commitment of giving to the city youth, a memorable evening that they will always cherish and relate to. The music festival will culminate in a rock concert, with these young artists performing at the concert.
Spice had recently partnered with the Rotary Club to organize ‘ Spice Rotary Heartline Concert' in Chandigarh , a fund raiser concert in aid of the economically weaker sections of the society. The concert that saw famous rock bands Parikrama & Bandish giving an action-packed performance, was a hit among city youth.
Major Recent Performances of the music bands include performances at GCM Chandigarh in July 2005, Campus Rock Idols in November 2005 in Chandigarh , Saturnalia 2006, and Annual Festival of Thapar Institute of Engg. and Tech, Patiala , Lakshya , Festival of DAV college Chandigarh in March-2006, and Spice Heartline Contest at PEC and DAV, Chandigarh .
Some of the famous songs released are Dancing with the Devils, Save Our Souls (SOS), Fuel. The bands have tried to bring out the heavier side of punk music through their music.
Although the members of 21 st Rebel Street have slightly different tastes of music but their common sound is towards the kind of rock music which deviates from the otherwise popular metallic rock. Together, the band covers some songs of bands like Green Day ( their most cherished band ) , sum 41 , Red hot chilli peppers , Good charlotte , the Ramones . The inspirations are bands like Rolling Stones and sex pistols . Jimmy Hendrix has been Kanishk's special inspiration.
